Tell Congress to Dump the Monsanto Rider
The agbiotech industry has quietly inserted a dangerous policy rider into the Agriculture Appropriations bill headed to the House floor in the next two days. Though wrapped in a “farmer-friendly” package, this “farmer assurance provision” is simply an industry ploy to continue to plant genetically engineered (GE) crops even when a court of law has found they were approved illegally. The provision undermines USDA’s oversight of GE crops, unnecessarily interferes with the U.S. judicial review process, and could be unconstitutional. It is also completely unnecessary and serves only to offer “assurance” to agbiotech companies like Monsanto, not farmers.
Thanks to the tens of thousands of calls and emails opposing this provision, Representative DeFazio (D-OR) will introduce an amendment to strike this Monsanto rider from the final bill!
Tell Congress to support the DeFazio amendment removing this dangerous provision from the Ag Appropriations bill
